Synopsis:

This full-feature documentary “Conquista” is a riveting documentary that tells the incredible story of a daring artist who shook the art world to its core. In 2012, a man calling himself “Conquista” walked into the Menil Collection museum in Houston, Texas, and spray-painted over a rare 1929 Picasso painting worth a staggering $78 million.

What followed was a cat-and-mouse game that spanned several continents, as Conquista eluded authorities. The American government was on the hunt for the mysterious artist, and the art world buzzed with speculation about his motives and identity.

The film takes viewers on a thrilling ride as it pieces together the events leading up to the brazen act of vandalism, and delves into Conquista’s background and artistic vision. Reenacted Interviews with art experts, museum curators, and law enforcement officials provide insight into the significance of the Picasso painting, and the repercussions of the crime.

As the story unfolds, the film raises provocative questions about the value of art, the power of individual expression, and the lengths to which people will go to make their mark on the world. “Conquista” is a must-see for anyone interested in the intersection of art, crime, and cultural identity.
