Exhibit Opens August 22, 2026
The International Museum of Art & Science (IMAS), a Smithsonian Affiliate, is proud to announce the opening of Lowrider Culture in the United States / Cultura Lowrider en los Estados Unidos, a dynamic and visually rich exhibition examining the history, artistry, and cultural significance of lowriding in the United States. The exhibition is locally supported by Clark Chevrolet and Clark Knapp Honda and will be on display August 22 through November 15, 2026.
Lowrider Culture in the United States / Cultura Lowrider en los Estados Unidos presents a multifaceted perspective on the American experience through the lens of lowrider culture. Featuring vivid photographs and interpretive content, it highlights the post-World War II Mexican American community and traces how lowriding emerged as a powerful form of artistic expression rooted in identity, innovation, and entrepreneurship. From customized vehicles to stylistic craftsmanship, the exhibition demonstrates how this tradition has influenced popular culture both nationally and globally.
An opening reception will be held on Friday, August 21, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at IMAS. This after-hours event is free for IMAS Members with pre-registration encouraged. Members may bring one guest per membership. Additional guests and the public may attend for a $10 admission fee. Attendees are asked to present their Membership card and ID for entry. Memberships may be purchased online or at the door.

Lowrider Culture in the United States / Cultura Lowrider en los Estados Unidos is organized by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service in collaboration with the National Museum of American History. The exhibition received federal support from the Latino Initiatives Pool, administered by the National Museum of the American Latino.
