The International Museum of Art & Science (IMAS) has received a $5,500 grant from BBVA Compass Bank in support of afterschool STEAM virtual programming for K-12 students. “Afterschool Adventures with IMAS” kicked off on October 29 and 30 with Spooky Science! workshops hosted on Facebook Live.

Virtual Afterschool Adventures with IMAS features late-afternoon programing with seasonal themed, hands-on learning for students from McAllen ISD and surrounding areas. Each program will offer free workshop kits for participating children that include activity supplies and extra treats. Learners can pursue topics in depth and explore their interests in these Afterschool Adventures throughout the year.

Ann Fortescue, President and Executive Director shared, “Our IMAS Education staff has found a tremendous interest from the community for our virtual art and science interactive programs. All of the 200 free activity kits were claimed for Spooky Science! and hundreds of viewers tuned in to learn about pumpkins, density, and chemical reactions this first month.”

Upcoming Afterschool Adventures with IMAS include December’s Holiday STEM, February’s All About the Heart, and April’s Art & Nature. Visit theimasonline.org for the most up-to-date information on program details, advance kit registration, links for live video streaming and a video archive.

Families are encouraged to visit the museum to build on their experience through Science On a Sphere, McAllen Public Utility BioZone lab, and an array of art exhibitions featuring a variety of art media.

Current museum admission is $1/per person ages 4+; IMAS members are always free. Learn more and plan your visit to the IMAS.
