The International Museum of Art & Science (IMAS), an Affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, has been awarded a $15,000 grant from H-E-B Helping Here supporting art and culture, removing the financial barrier for unique informal, family learning experiences. Programs include a virtual Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) program, free admission days and monthly virtual Workshop Wednesday programming with free supply kits.

Leading up to the Día de los Muertos Celebration, view our community altar exhibit, take part in a live Workshop Wednesday on papel picado, and visit the museum on free admission days thanks to the support of H-E-B Helping Here. IMAS general admission is free from October 29-31. Daily hours Thursday through Saturday are 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. and 2:00-5:00 p.m. Free admission is also free on Wednesday, October 28 for a sensory-friendly experience from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

The virtual Día de los Muertos Celebration will be held on Sunday, November 1, 2020, online through fb.com/imasmuseum and https://www.youtube.com/user/IMASmuseum. Free celebration bags will include sugar skull decoration kits and art supplies for families participating online at home. Register in advance for these limited free kits on the IMAS website. Curbside pick-up for kits will be at IMAS on 29-31 during operating hours.

Workshop Wednesdays feature monthly videos on art techniques, artists, and art movements. Viewers will also have the option of picking up a free supply kit for the workshop at the museum beforehand. Visit theimasonline.org for program kit registration throughout the year.

Workshop Wednesday workshop art activities include papel picado (Oct.), corn husk wreaths (Nov.), papier-mâché animal masks (Dec.), still life sketching (Jan.), kinetic sculpture (Feb.), women artists (Mar.), zentangle art (Apr.), DADA poetry collage (May), cubism portraits (Jun.), and optical art (Jul.).

IMAS cultural programs are supported in part by a grant from Humantities Texas.

Celebration Kit
Celebration kits for the Dia de los Muertos Celebration are provided free of cost thanks to the support of H-E-B Helping Here. Kits must be picked up during IMAS open hours on October 29-31 from 10 AM – 1 PM and 2 – 5 PM. Limit one per family.
Papel Picado Kit
Workshop Wednesday Papel Picado kits are provided free of cost thanks to the support of H-E-B Helping Here. Tune in to IMAS Facebook page Wednesday, October 28th for the LIVE workshop. A limited number of kits are available. Registration required. Papel Picado Kit pickup is on Saturday, October 24 from 10 AM-1 PM and 2-5 PM via curbside at the museum.
